Monocular Microscopes are the simplest form of compound microscope and are made to view flat samples on glass slides via a single eyepiece. They normally consist of an LED or HAL (Halogen) transmitted illuminator, 4x 10x 40x 100xoil objective lenses on a revolving nosepiece, fixed Köhler condenser, simple stage (sometimes static) and lastly the monocular head with eyepiece, as the name suggests.
They are a gateway into microscopy, and users include explorers starting their personal journey into microscopy, plus schools and colleges for education. These systems are the first experience of microscopy for most users. Predominantly they are used to study pre-mounted slides of cells, plants, and microscopic animals.
The advantage is that monocular microscopes are simple to use, and teachers can concentrate on the subject matter efficiently, rather than spending lesson time instructing correct operation of a microscope. Their drawback is that viewing through a single eye will make samples appear flat without depth, and lack sophisticated optics that other systems have. However, they are designed to introduce new scientists into microscopy a goal they achieve with flying colours.
We feature a selection of Euromex and Motic monocular microscopes here that we like as affordable and robust models, but many more are available. We can offer package options and competitive pricing for bulk purchase for school and science lab fit outs. Contact us to discuss your requirements and receive a detailed no obligation quotation.
