Inverted Microscopes (also known as cell culture microscopes) are used for observing cells and organisms in culture inside petri dishes, flasks, well plates, and other containers. They use the same principle and parts of upright compound microscopes, but they are configured upside down so the objective lenses are positioned below the sample, rather than above it.
This allows the user to view biological and liquid samples, at high magnifications, while still inside of their containers. This is achieved using lenses that have longer working distances, to compensate for the thickness of the receptacle.
Inverted compound microscopes are typically found in clinical laboratory and university environments, and their users include biological specialists such as veterinarians, medical professionals, and researchers. These microscopes usually include ergonomic equipment for user comfort, as the tasks they perform can be repetitive and lengthy routine processes.
Inverted microscopes have two main choices of viewing head.
Trinocular: combining both binocular eyepieces, and a separate port for attaching a camera to document samples via digital imaging. Including DSLR and C-Mount cameras. Cameras can also be attached via additional side ports, only available on inverted compound microscopes.
Binocular: these can have additional ergonomic features built in to ensure user comfort, such as interpupillary and height adjustment for heavy users.
Inverted microscopes also utilise different contrast techniques to efficiently view biological samples. These are typically, Brightfield, and Phase contrast. These techniques need the right parts to operate correctly, and we can advise you on how they benefit your area of study.
Like other compound machines Inverted Microscopes consist of many variable, and optional parts and we recommend that you consult with us so we can configure your system to have features that benefit your processes. We show standard configurations here to indicate a typical set up and encourage you to work with us to configure your own. It’s Best Scientific’s goal to provide the user with the right product for their requirements. Contact the team today for further advice about an inverted microscopes setup.
