Description
Optical inspection of cylinder bore surfaces
Inspecting the internal surface of a cylinder can be difficult using conventional microscopy. The CylinderInspector has been specifically developed to provide clear optical access to the bore, allowing the running surface to be inspected without cutting or otherwise damaging the component. The optical system provides a 360° cylindrical panoramic view, enabling the complete circumference of the bore to be examined. This makes it particularly useful for assessing the quality and consistency of honed cylinder surfaces. The system is suitable for inspecting both cast iron and aluminium cylinder surfaces.
What can the CylinderInspector inspect?
The CylinderInspector can be used to examine a range of cylinder surface characteristics, including:
- Honing patterns and honing angle
- Surface structure and finish
- Pores and pore distribution
- Surface defects and irregularities
- Wear and damage
- Silicon crystal distribution in aluminium cylinder surfaces
Optional measurement and analysis software provides additional tools for measuring and evaluating characteristics such as honing angle, pore size and pore distribution.
Key features:
- 360° inspection of the internal cylinder surface
- Non-destructive optical inspection
- Suitable for cast iron and aluminium cylinder surfaces
- Variable magnification for detailed examination
- High-quality integrated optical system
- Coaxial and dark-field illumination options
- Digital camera configurations available
- Optional measurement and analysis software
- Configurations for laboratory, quality-control and production environments
- Adaptable to different cylinder diameters and inspection depths
CylinderInspector V4 Pro
The CylinderInspector V4 Pro is designed for detailed inspection, measurement and analysis, making it particularly suitable for quality-control laboratories, development departments and demanding inspection applications.
The integrated zoom optics provide multiple magnification positions, while the built-in USB 3.0 camera allows the cylinder surface to be viewed and analysed digitally.
The V4 Pro accommodates cylinder diameters from 60 to 125 mm as standard, with a maximum immersion depth of 260 mm. Larger cylinder diameters can be accommodated using suitable adapters.
Cylinder Inspector V4 Pro specifications:
- Cylinder diameter: 60–125 mm
- Maximum immersion depth: 260 mm
- Field of view: Approx. 6.8 × 5.4 mm to 1.0 × 0.8 mm
- Viewing: 360° cylindrical panoramic view
- Optics: Integrated zoom optics
- Camera: Integrated USB 3.0 camera
- Focus: Manual fine adjustment
- Illumination: Coaxial and dark-field
- Measurement software: Optional
- Larger cylinder diameters: Possible with adapter
CylinderInspector QuickTest
The CylinderInspector QuickTest is designed for rapid inspection and random sampling in production environments. Its compact design allows cylinder bores to be inspected quickly without transferring components to a dedicated laboratory inspection system. The running surface can be viewed through an eyepiece or, depending on configuration, displayed on a monitor using a USB camera.
The QuickTest incorporates 7:1 zoom optics, coaxial LED illumination and a manually adjustable immersion axis.
CylinderInspector QuickTest specifications:
- Cylinder diameter: Approx. 70–89 mm
- Immersion depth: Approx. 150 mm
- Optics: 7:1 zoom
- Field of view: Approx. 5.0 × 6.2 mm to 0.7 × 0.9 mm
- Viewing method: USB Camera or Eyepiece option
- Illumination: High-power coaxial LED
- Power: Battery operated
- Focus: Manual
- Measurement software: Optional
