Expanding capabilities with Fusion Micro-Inspection System’s NIR and SWIR Imaging Functions
Unlocking a new dimension of possibilities, the Optem Fusion micro-imaging system has expanded its capabilities to include Near Infrared (NIR) and Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) wavelength imaging. Previously confined to the visible spectrum (400nm-700nm), the Fusion system now boasts enhanced versatility with added modules enabling successful visualization of NIR (700nm-1100nm) and SWIR (900nm-1700nm) wavelengths.
This cutting-edge modular lens design empowers Value Added Resellers (VARs), such as Best Scientific, to customize system form, function, and performance for specific applications and projects. The new interchangeable modules extend wavelength visualization capabilities, making the Fusion system even more applicable to diverse applications, including semiconductor and defect inspection, fluorescence analysis, and hyperspectral imaging across life and material sciences. The system offers both fixed and variable magnification (zoom) optical configurations.
New Units Added to Fusion System:
- Camera Tubes: 0.5x – 0.8x – 1x – 1.5x – 2x
- Zoom Modules: 7:1 Ratio (Manual, Detent, Motorized options)
- Coaxial Illumination Ports (With or without focusing)
- Lower Lenses: 0.5x – 1x – 1.25x – 2x (Working distance range: 95 – 395mm)
First Application: University of East Anglia’s Hyperspectral Vision System
The inaugural project utilizing the expanded capabilities of the Fusion system was for the University of East Anglia. They aimed to create a hyperspectral vision system for the School of Chemistry, requiring compatibility with the existing Raptor Photonics Owl camera. The system needed to provide a field of view (FOV) of approximately 6x6mm at low magnification for orientation and identification, followed by the ability to zoom into a 2x2mm area for closer, higher resolution inspection within the SWIR region.
Leveraging the Fusion Micro-Inspection system’s new capabilities, the project was seamlessly executed. Interchangeable camera mounts facilitated integration with the C-Mount Owl camera, and the manual zoom, basic lower function module, and 2x lower lens combination fulfilled the required specifications. A clamp was added for secure mounting on an optical table to ensure system stability.
