Optical Vision System Optimisation Case Study: Navitar Resolv4k Lens Series
Introduction:
Best Scientific proudly announces the successful completion of configuring, supplying, and delivering an advanced optical vision system for a biological application at UCL. This case study highlights our expertise in meeting unique requirements and achieving outstanding results.
Enquiry:
UCL reached out to us seeking a bespoke optical vision system. The Ophthalmology department specifically required optimisation for video capturing of mouse pupil features.
Brief:
The challenge was to retrofit to the client’s existing camera, ensuring high frame rates. The client desired a longer working distance, versatile low-light colour vision for pupil observation, and a field of view maximising video inspection area. Key specifications included:
- Field of view ~ 2mm to fill the camera sensor
- Long working distance of 100mm minimum
- Compatibility with low light in various colors
- Direct camera output with video capture
- Equipped with mounting hardware for seamless integration with the existing rig.
Process:
Following a meticulous portfolio evaluation, we identified the Navitar Resolv4k System as the ideal solution. Opting for a fixed magnification system over zoom, we aimed to enhance performance in low and colored light conditions. This choice minimised optical elements, preserving light throughput to the camera.
The fully modular Navitar system allowed precise optimisation of the field of view and working distance through careful front lens and camera tube selection. Its T2 mount interface facilitated seamless integration with the client’s camera. For stability, we selected a robust tube clamp, ensuring secure mounting on the optical bench.
Results:
Our optical system met and exceeded the client’s expectations. The Navitar system’s modularity and selectable features enhanced existing equipment, providing the desired properties for optimal system performance.
