Revolutionising Ergonomics with Optics in Gas Analysis Product Manufacturing

Background:

Best Scientific, a long-standing partner of a global leader in gas analysis product manufacturing, was enlisted to enhance ergonomics in their prouction applications. Having provided vision system and microscopy solutions in the past, it was a pleasure for Best Scientific to assist this valued customer once again.

Requirements:

The challenge was to address ergonomic issues faced by operators engaged in detailed yet repetitive manufacturing processes. Using outdated stereomicroscope systems had resulted in operator discomfort, specifically neck and back pain. The goal was to introduce an alternative vision system that promotes a comfortable working posture, eliminates health concerns, minimizes downtime, and enhances production efficiency—all within the confines of an already busy production work area.

Leveraging existing equipment, Best Scientific ingeniously devised a doughnut ring adapter that retrofitted into the stereo microscope’s head housing. This adapter allowed for the integration of a mini zoom lens with 3:1 ratio optics and a simple C-mount analogue camera. The live image feed was then displayed on a small monitor directly in front of the operator. An auxiliary lens ensured optimal working distance without impeding production space. Focusing was facilitated by the adjustment on the existing stereo arm, and the chosen optics, coupled with ambient light, negated the need for additional illumination.

Solution Update: HDMI Camera Solutions

As analogue cameras become scarce, Best Scientific now offers an updated solution with HDMI digital cameras. These cameras provide direct-to-monitor imaging and enable the incorporation of digital overlays such as crosshairs and grids to aid in production and counting processes. This updated solution is not only cost-effective but also ideal for production and machining observation applications.
