Fibre Alignment Vision system

Enhancing Fiber Alignment: A Seamless Vision System Configuration Case Study.

Introduction:

Our valued client, Effect Photonics, recently approached us with a crucial request—to design and supply a state-of-the-art vision system for their Fibre Alignment Station. The primary objective was to visualise and confirm the proper connection and alignment of fibres as they progress through the production process.

Design and Configuration Brief:

To meet Effect Photonics’ specific requirements, we meticulously crafted a design and configuration brief that encompassed the following key features:

  1. Zoom optics for variable field of view (FOV).
  2. Camera system to display live image of sample.
  3. Working distance of 80-100mm to provide good access for production purposes.
  4. Coaxial lighting system to improve appearance of reflective surfaces.
  5. Ring light system to improve overall image quality.
  6. HDMI or USB camera functionality for image processing.
  7. Needed quickly on a short lead time.

Solution:

Utilising the detailed client-provided information, we curated a tailored solution, including:

  • VC.3036 HDMI/USB C-Mount camera
  • 7:1 Opto Zoom module
  • Opto Internal focus module with coax port
  • Starlight LED illuminator with desktop controller via coax port
  • 20# LED Ring light with desktop controller

The selected camera offers dual functionality (HDMI and USB), providing users with operational flexibility. The 7:1 zoom optics allow for a balanced field of view, enabling quick orientation at low magnification before zooming in on specific areas of interest.

The coax illuminator with LED pure white illumination, featuring a diffuser, ensures homogenous light for the sample, delivering enhanced image quality for reflective surfaces. Similarly, the 20# LED Ring Light illuminator, with its desktop controller, aligns perfectly with the optical system’s working distance.

Cost Savings: To maximize cost-effectiveness, we made strategic choices:

  • Provided a 1x TV/Camera tube without glass, reducing costs without compromising functionality.
  • Leveraged the Opto zoom system’s base configuration of 90mm, eliminating the need for a front auxiliary lens and further reducing expenses.

Summary:

This comprehensive system not only met the design brief effectively but also adhered to a relatively short 6-week lead time. Our commitment to quality was evident as each system was personally built, calibrated, aligned, and rigorously checked before dispatch to ensure optimal performance upon installation.

Conclusion:
